THE TECHNOLOGY

The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is responsible for cervix cancer in humans. The determination of HPV types has clinical-diagnostic value and is an important factor in the assessment of risk of cancer development in patients who exhibit evidence of HPV infection. HPV genotyping is particularly valuable in the follow-up of women with abnormal cervical cells and for monitoring persistent HR HPV infections.
e-BRID is a new automatic platform proposing a strategy satisfying the need for a cheap, fast, easy and patient-friendly diagnostic tool able to detect the majority of the HPV infections. The platform is based on the principle of the "Flow-through" hybridization technology: the DNA, directly amplified from cervical samples avoiding extraction, is forced, by means of a pumping system, through a tridimensional porous membrane, where in different spots are linked DNA probes complementary to the different HPV types.

• DNA from cervical samples is firstly amplified by Direct PCR
• PCR products are then placed in the e-BRID platform
• Automatically enabling simultaneous screening and genotyping of 36 HPV types:
• 18 High Risk (16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 73 and 82)
• 18 Low Risk (6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 55, 61, 62, 67, 69, 70, 71, 72, 81, 84 and CP6108)
